- The next project meeting will take place on the 9th and 10th Oktober 2025 in Warsaw, Poland.
- On the 20th and 21st of March 2025, a project meeting took place in Umeå, Sweden, at the Curiosum of Umeå University. This inspiring science center provided the perfect setting to discuss the first iterations of teacher training scenarios in four countries, reflect together on strengths and challenges, and plan the next iteration.
During hands-on activities, we had the opportunity to experience how “Critical Making” is implemented at Curiosum through low-threshold offerings for students – for example: How do you build a robot in 45 minutes? Alongside these practical experiences, we also discussed management issues, evaluation tools, and dissemination strategies.
A visit to the impressive neighboring Bildmuseet gave us new perspectives on essential topics such as books, libraries, language loss, cultural violence, and resistance, which are of fundamental importance to humanity.
Of course, the obligatory Swedish Fika was not to be missed!
As we now move forward with the next phase of the project, a central question remains, one we are already actively working on: How can we shape Critical Making – especially in the context of AI in STEM – so that it empowers learners to critically address misinformation and responsibly engage with knowledge?
- On the 17th and 18th of October 2024, a project meeting took place in Weingarten, Germany at the University of Education. During the project meeting, the project team not only discussed theoretical concepts and the design of their teacher training programs, but also engaged in hands-on activities, including a visit to the Wissenswerkstatt in Friedrichshafen and a session in the University of Education Weingarten’s own pedagogical makerspace, CoLiLab.
Overall, the meeting provided valuable insights and practical experiences that will shape the next steps of the project. As the team continue to develop and refine their teacher training programs, they are excited to see how these efforts will contribute to empowering educators to foster critical thinking and digital competence in their classrooms.
OER Publication
- The developed and evaluated teaching materials from this project, including practical tools and classroom resources, are available on the OER platform Scientix. Scientix is a European platform that promotes and supports STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education by encouraging collaboration among teachers, researchers, policymakers, and other education stakeholders. Funded by the European Commission, it offers a space for sharing teaching materials, best practices, and research projects to enhance STEM learning across Europe.
Publishing these resources on Scientix ensures they are easily accessible and well-organized, making it simple for educators to browse, download, and use them in their own classrooms.
You can explore the Critical Making project and access all materials through the following link.
